Remember: Wrangell is on Alaska Standard Time (AKST) and observes daylight savings time. So Wrangell is 4 hours behind Eastern Standard Time (EST). ALSO, you can now follow us on Twitter (AWOCwrangell); the postings are in the upper right column of this blog.
NOTE: if you need to contact the advanced team in Alaska (i.e. Shurmer) before 2 July, please try the cell of Jamie (301) 830-1107
AWOC Satellite Phone: (011) 870 776 408 981
This is an international call and charges are paid by the originator. It will be difficult to contact us on the sat-phone as it, of course, needs to be turned on to receive the call.
AWOC guides’ emergency cell: 202 441-5665 (Matt Asbill)
We will try to have the cell phone on between 8-8:30am (AKST) – that’s 12noon in DC — each morning when we are in a cell-receptive zone for emergency contact. Please note that reception is extremely spotty and it may not be possible to connect.
U.S. Postal Service:
AWOC c/o Robert Shurmer
PO BOX (still waiting for number, but they’ll find me even without one)
Wrangell Post Office
112 Federal Way
Wrangell, AK 99929
There aren’t many times after the 7th of July that I’ll be checking my box at the Post Office. It will take at least a week for any mail to reach Wrangell, so this isn’t exactly the best way to reach us.
